We interviewed our grandparents to discover what we could do to help them be happier during the pandemic. Their answer: spend more time with us! So we did just that : we found different ways to connect with them online during the time we can't be together.
We also wanted to share our ideas with you so you can learn and play with your grandparents, too.
Idea #1:
Play Pictionary
Zoom's "White board" feature is perfect to play Pictionary! We drew and they had to guess the word we had in mind, and then it was their turn. We even spelled our answers to practice our writing!
Idea #2:
Read Together
We downloaded virtual books on an iPad or desktop Kindle app and used the "Screen sharing" feature on Zoom to read aloud to our grandparents. They could even help us when we got stuck on certain words!
Idea #3:
Play "Guess Who?"
Children and grandparents prepared in advance 10 words to be guessed and connected to Zoom to ask each other questions to find out the secret word. We even got to practice our second (or third) language: English, Français, Español and Deutsche.
Ready?
Our grandparents want to continue to play important roles in our lives! It's now your time to play and learn with them! Got inspired?
Head to La Cabane's Facebook page to share your ideas and photos of your virtual playdates with your grand-parents!
Ensemble Together is a project created by the children of La Cabane, Family Makeshop.
Each month, we tackle a challenge we face in our community. In November 2020, our challenge was: How might we bring joy to the elderly, from near and far, to break their isolation and create lifelong bonds? Ensemble Together is our answer to this challenge. Learning and playing with our grandparents will now be a recurring part of our monthly schedule!
